Description:
GVB Amsterdam has worked out a plan to improve the surveillance and service on the subway stations in order of the municipality. For this purpose the number of cameras is increased and information kiosks for the travellers are placed. The stations are guarded in a new observation and communication centre. All alarms and announcements are presented on two screens, by which all alarms are managed in a consistent way. Whether it’s about a failure alarm of an escalator, an intercom call from an information kiosk or a walky-talky call from a colleague, the presentation and the tasks on the screen are consistent:

  • In case of in incoming alarm the Situational Awareness is optimised by showing the corresponding cameras and maps. In addition the matching communication systems are activated.
  • Then the corresponding procedures can be carried out easily. Think of controlling the station systems or cameras or informing colleagues that are working on the stations.
  • The way in which alarms are managed are automatically logged including the possible notes of the operator.
  • The system is equipped with extended possibilities of analysing the alarms afterwards. With this it is possible to improve the security of stations.

The OCC is brought into use at the start of 2005. The experiences show that the set up is successful.
