Description:
From the control post Parksluizen in Rotterdam two locks and three bridges are controlled. The control post itself and all locks and bridges are renovated. The owner, the Rotterdam Port Authority asked vhp to design a new User Interface for the control of the objects. vhp first developed a standard concept for the control of locks and bridges. This standard is then detailed for the specific locks and bridges of the Parksluizen. For these designs the control process has been thoroughly analysed. Also relevant legislation has been involved. An important aspect in the designs is safety: for example the bridge can not be opened if the road barriers are not closed.

The control process has been mapped in flowcharts in which each possible step of the control process is described. After that a design has been made for different screenshots and a prototype has been built in which all controls can be handled. This prototype was tested extensively by the operators. The final step for vhp was to accompany the construction of the software in close cooperation with the software engineers.
